COVID-19

Update on the COVID-19 Vaccine

Our facility continues to work with the community to follow all CDC and state guidelines pertaining to COVID-19 safety precautions.

Horizon Medical Center is committed to the safety of its patients during the COVID-19 epidemic. We have implemented the following precautions to ensure the safety of you and your family during this time:

Prior to scheduled surgery

  • Nurse will call to verify patient has not been possibly exposed in last 30 days
  • Nurse will ask basic symptom questions to verify patient has no possible symptoms
  • Nurse will advise patient we will be taking his/her temperature on day of surgery
  • Nurse will advise patient we currently allow no visitors with exception of:
    • Disabled or special needs
    • Traveling from out of town to do procedure
    • Any other exceptions as approved by facility management
  • Patient will be advised to bring a mask on day of procedure as it will be policy to wear the mask while at the facility

Day of Surgery

  • Patient will be re-screened for possible exposure and temperature taken. If family member is allowed in waiting room, their temperature and screening will be done as well.
  • Only the patient will be allowed in the pre-op and post-op areas
  • If patient is to be intubated, we will perform a 20 minute blood test to determine if patient has Covid antibodies or active virus
  • Patient (and family member, if allowed) will be required to wear a mask at all times prior to procedure

Staff Procedures

  • All staff members’ (doctors, nurses and technical support) temperatures will be checked and logged daily
  • All staff will wear appropriate PPE at all times when interacting with the patient
  • Entire facility will be “terminally cleaned” nightly. This is standard procedure for a surgery center, particularly in the OR’s
  • All staff washes and sanitizes hands constantly to prevent any infection (including Covid). The hand sanitation process is monitored and reported by the clinical staff
